Pesticide Courses

All pesticide users must be adequately trained no matter what their age or qualifications. The law states that contractors who apply agriculture pesticides commercially and all operators born after 31st December 1964, are required to have a certificate of competence.

Safe use of Pesticides (PA1)*
• Identify key aspects of legislation which apply to the use of pesticides
• Identify the precautions necessary to use a product safely
• Identify, select and understand the maintenance and storage of correct protective equipment
• Understand the correct procedure for the storage of pesticides
• Understand the correct procedure for the disposal of empty containers, surplus pesticides, and washings
• Understand the records that must be kept
• Understand the situations where pesticide application may pose a risk to people or the environment

Ground Crop Spraying (PA2)
• Prepare the applicator for work, calibrate and operate it to ensure correct application rate
• Use the information detailed on the product labels to determine the approved uses for the product and potential hazards
• Carry out daily routine maintenance on the sprayer
• Carry out the correct procedure for cleaning personal protective equipment and application equipment.

Air Assisted Sprayer (PA3A/PA3B)*
• PA3A—Boom Sprayer PA3B—Variable Geometry
• Identify key aspects of legislation which apply to the use of pesticides
• Identify the precautions to use a product safely
• Identify, select and understand the maintenance and storage of correct protective equipment
• Understand the correct procedure for the storage of pesticides
• Understand the procedure for the disposal of empty containers, surplus pesticides and washings
• Understand the records that must be kept
• Understand the situations where pesticide application may pose a risk to people or the environment

Hand Held Applicator—Knapsack Spraying (PA6)*
• Prepare a hand-held pesticide applicator, calibrate and operate
• Use the information detailed on product labels to determine the approved uses for the product
• Carry out daily and routine maintenance on a hand-held pesticide applicator
• Carry out the correct procedure for cleaning protective equipment and application equipment

Granular Applicator—Slug Pelleter (PA4)*
• Delegates will learn about effective slug control, including baiting, calibration and the application of slug pellets with a special focus on protecting the environment

Optimise your Sprayer Performance
• Maintenance for optimum performance
• Calibration, nozzle check and selection
• Speed, pressure and correct droplet size for target

Vermin Control – Rat and Mouse* or Rabbit and Mole Control*
• Both preventative and curative methods of control
• How to administer pesticides safely and effectively
• How to plan and monitor a vermin control programme
