Graduating from Wye College with a degree in Horticultural Business and Management, Tim joined ADAS as a Horticultural Advisor based at Brogdale which in 1975 was the National Fruit Trials. In 1977 he was recruited to advise the Fruitcare Group – a group of fruit growers in the Maidstone area who were the founder members of Kentish Garden. From there he moved to East Kent Packers working in the technical advisory department which in May 1981 was privatised to become FAST where he was Senior Fruit Adviser. In 1986 Tim moved to East Anglia to advise Waveney Apple Growers. The FAST E Anglian business flourished under Tim’s management, and a successful team was built up based near Ipswich advising over 90 farms in the E Anglian region. Following a management buyout in 1991 Tim took over the helm of FAST and moved back to the Faversham office. The office was relocated to Brogdale in 2008 and FAST became responsible for managing the farm including the National Fruit Collections. Tim established a trials facility and team on the farm leading to the uptake of new ideas and techniques by FAST members.
Throughout his career Tim has developed a keen interest in how to make fruit trees and plants more productive both at a plant and orchard level. He has spoken at International Conferences and helped make FAST a professional and highly regarded advisory team throughout the UK and beyond.
